I’m giving you all the details on one of my most-requested topics ever – a non-toxic nursery. I’m sharing all my top baby registry picks for feeding, diapering, bathing, and more.
I am so passionate about creating a non-toxic home, especially when little ones are around! It’s why I’ve written all about the hidden toxins in your home and how to create a healthy home. While being completely non-toxic is not possible 100% of the time, I try my best to make as many smart choices on baby items as I can.
There is no better time to invest in cleaning up your environment than when you’re getting ready to welcome a little one into the world. I will walk you through exactly how to provide your baby with an environment that truly promotes his or her best health and wellness.
Unfortunately, many baby products contain harmful chemicals either in them or on them. These chemicals can irritate a baby’s skin, lungs, eyes, and digestive tract. Additionally, they can add up to create a big toxic burden on such a tiny body. I’m passionate about swapping to non-toxic personal care and home products, but I’m especially passionate about making this change when welcoming new babies.
Listed below are some popular toxins found in and on common baby products. These are substances you’ll want to avoid. And if you’re not sure if a product contains any of them, always ask!
Again, if in doubt about whether or not a product contains the above substances, I encourage you to reach out to the company and ask!
A final note on off-gassing. I mentioned it above, and it’s worth another mention. I would off-gas all products/clothes/furniture/textiles/etc. that are newly received and/or purchased. How do you do this? Allow the object to sit outdoors in direct sunlight for several hours. Some products with a strong smell can even be sat outside for a few days while the smell (and chemicals) completely dissipate.
Below are my top picks for avoiding the above toxins to create a safer environment for little ones. Add them to your baby shower registry or your own shopping list!
While most of these items are chosen due to quality and minimal/no toxins, there are some things on here that I hand-picked and recommend after having 2 children. For example, The Doona, my all-time favorite car seat/stroller for life on the go/traveling.
Here is a general suggestion for you when it comes to buying for a baby: Focus on quality over quantity. I would prioritize buying high-quality, non-toxic (as much as possible) products such as the ones I listed above. You’ll likely find out that you need and use less than you thought you might.
I’m a huge advocate of making smart purchases. I like knowing my purchases will promote health, hold up with the wear-and-tear of use, and make my life and baby’s life easier. You can’t go wrong with what I listed above, especially if you want another child. A lot of these things can be used more than once!
