2022 is the year you are prioritizing your health. You’re done feeling crappy, done making excuses, and you are ready to create a healthy lifestyle for yourself. But where do you start?
Today I’m sharing easy daily detox practices that won’t take up more than an hour of your day (some take less than a minute!). I know we are all juggling so much already, so the key to creating a healthy lifestyle is to choose effective but simple practices. This way you’ll actually follow through with them, right?
When people think of detox, they think of drinking only green juices all day long. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. When I say “daily detox,” I mean ways to support your body’s natural detox pathways.
Your body does detox on its own (think sweating, bowel movements, etc.), but the issue is that unhealthy lifestyles bombard your detox pathways, so they get “backed up” or can’t run optimally.
When this happens, toxins and excess hormones start filling up your “toxin bucket.” Before long, it can overflow, and these toxins can go back into circulation, causing damage to cells and wreak havoc on your gut and hormones and causing inflammation.
Even if you created a safe haven, non-toxic home, we still can’t control certain situations that expose our bodies to toxins. Sure you can eat clean food, purify your air and filter your water but the reality is, you cannot live in a bubble, nor should you strive for perfection. You should be able to live your life, come into contact with some toxins or inflammatory foods and still be able to detox. Because we live in a toxic world, and we cannot control all variables, this is why you need to be incorporating practices in your routine that support natural detox every day. If you want to create healthy habits and the healthiest lifestyle for 2022, this is where you can start.
As I said, you want them to be easy and/or enjoyable so that you actually do them!

Adequate sleep is ESSENTIAL for optimal body functions including detox processes. Research suggests that while you sleep, your body clears your brain of damaging molecules associated with neurodegeneration. Pretty much, your brain flushes out toxins that build up during waking hours. Sleep also allows your bowels to rest and gives your digestive system a break.
Your immune system is most active at night, so you must allow your body the time to respond to foreign invaders and restore healthy cells.
Epsom salt baths are a must! Add in some calming essential oils and you’ll thank me later. This is truly one of my favorite ways to reset my nervous system as well. Detoxing the mind is just as important as the body.
Epsom salt baths infused with essential oils can significantly reduce your stress. Since stress reduces your ability to metabolize and detoxify, this is a big daily detox practice you should incorporate because who isn’t stressed these days!
If you’re a mama to little kiddos, dedicate two nights a week to “Mama night”. Set up that Epsom salt bath and candles and relax.
Did you know your skin is part of your detox system? Unfortunately old, dry skin can clog pores interfering with detoxification. Dry brushing (aka exfoliation) can help unclog your pores to support detoxification, increase blood circulation, and promote lymph flow. When you stimulate the lymphatic system, it helps remove toxins, pathogens, and old cellular waste that can accumulate causing stagnant lymph.
This simple practice takes less than 1 minute! Tongue scraping can remove bacteria and toxins that can lead to bad breath and even gingivitis.
When you use a tongue scraper (ideally after you brush your teeth), it can get rid of that white film, which is a mucous layer made up of fungus and bacteria that turns into plaque. Getting rid of this can help your oral health and as a result, help reduce the number of harmful bacteria and overall stressors on your body. Younger kids can even use this if it’s easier than brushing their tongue!
Sweat…but in a fun way. You may think, “ugh, I hate sweating!” But sweating is one of the best ways to get toxins out of your system, like BPAs from plastics and heavy metals.
You don’t have to run for miles to break a sweat either. Grab a friend, sign up for a HIIT class, hot yoga sesh, or get a good intense game of tennis going. Embrace the sweat! Be sure to hop in the shower soon after your sweat sesh to wash it off, so the toxins don’t get reabsorbed back into your skin and body.
You can even hit the sauna a couple of times a week where you want a day off from exercising. The benefits of sauna detox have been raved about for centuries. You can invest in in-home saunas or there are most likely saunas at your local wellness spa. My personal favorite sauna is an infrared sauna that also delivers light therapy.
This isn’t the typical “detox” that people refer to, but a social media detox is a must. The benefits of a digital detox are mind-blowing, and if you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend that you do. Heavy social media use is connected to anxiety and depression.
This doesn’t mean that you have to completely eliminate it from your life. I mean, I love social media! It allows me to connect with y’all! But being aware of your usage can significantly help your mental health and stress levels.
The best part is that you can decide how to do your social media detox. Set specific hours that you allow yourself to get on social media to avoid mindlessly scrolling for hours.
Another way to do a daily detox is to focus on who you follow. Every day unfollow 1-5 people that bring up unhealthy emotions (jealousy, comparison, negative emotions). And follow 1 new person that is an inspiration or makes you feel motivated to live a healthy life. If you’re not currently following me, you can find me sharing healthy tips on my Instagram page.
Whether it’s food, clothes, or products, organic options are a must in 2022. Now, more than ever, products and even our food supply are bombarded with hidden chemicals and toxins. These are why our natural detox systems can’t work optimally; they are inundated every single day.
Choose organic foods as much as possible, especially those on the Dirty Dozen list, and even buy organic clothes (especially important for your littles!).
Think about how many times you put beauty products on your body. Whether it’s shampoo, body lotion, foundation, or deodorant, those everyday products could be wreaking havoc on your body with hidden toxic chemicals. These products aren’t regulated and the ingredients like parfums (a.k.a. fragrances), formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, parabens, and phthalates could increase your risk of hormone imbalances, chronic diseases, and even cancers.
Swap to non-toxic skincare products to avoid bombarding your body with these unnecessary chemicals. I personally use and love:
RiseWell mouth care: Use code TAYLORDUKES for 10% off
Aleavia Skincare: Use code TAYLORDUKES FOR 15% OFF
Primally Pure: Use code TAYLORDUKES for 10% off
Your home is supposed to be your safe space. You don’t want to surround yourself with more chemicals and toxins that are secretly damaging your health, right? This daily detox practice, of buying and using non-toxic cleaners, will reduce the amount of toxins harming you and your family’s health. You don’t want to be spraying your countertops (that touch food), scrubbing your floors (that your kids roll around on), and washing your dishes (that your family eats off of) with nasty toxins! One of the most important things you can also do is replace your laundry detergent with a clean, non-toxic alternative.
I can confidently say that Branch Basics will always be my go-to household cleaner brand. You can even get 15% OFF a starter kit when you use ‘TAYLORDUKESWELLNESS’. It’s a non-toxic brand that actually works.
Staying hydrated is essential to help your body get rid of toxins. But the vital thing here is that you need to fuel your body with clean, filtered water. Did you know that the majority of U.S water is contaminated with chemicals of some sort, like heavy metals, microplastics, and even pharmaceuticals? So you don’t want to drink plain tap water or even bottled water since this could be adding to your toxic burden instead of relieving it.
You can even check the EWG water database to check your local water contamination levels and see for yourself. I highly recommend that you invest in a high-quality water filter system for your home. The Aquasana gets installed under your sink so it filters your water automatically. It’s a great option for your home.
