How do you get your husband on board?
It’s one of my most frequently-fielded questions when discussing healthy, non-toxic living. Like so many aspects of relationships in general, it’s a journey that requires good communication and mutual respect. I finally recruited my husband, Ryan, to share his thoughts on all things non-toxic living and getting your guy on board!
From the perspective of my own husband, here’s what he had to say on healthy living for the other half:
Tip #1: First and foremost, guys are typically routine junkies. If you want to get them something that makes a lasting impression, look at his existing routines and upgrade them within. Keep reading for my non-toxic swap recommendations. We are stubborn and simple, yet need a good healthy nudge every now and then.
Tip #2: The biggest mistake you can make is not easing into it. Most people dive into a non-toxic lifestyle headfirst. They go from one extreme to another. This can be off-putting to a lot of guys. Slowly add in changes to where it becomes a lifestyle. Introduce non-toxic swaps one at a time (my go-to products below), and let him see the results. Make gluten-free recipes that are more palatable. A cleaner lifestyle isn’t a punishment, it’s simply a better way of doing things.
Tip #3: Perfection is unattainable. 80/20 is a sweet spot for me. Do I love chips and queso? Well, I consider it my primary love language. Do I take supplements? Gladly. The posture I have adopted is the 80/20… Or in guys’ speak: “Pick and choose your battles.” I like to educate myself, though, so I can be mindful of my daily choices. I think that’s what it’s all about – doing what feels right for you. Let your stud of a man decide what fits his lifestyle best and encourage him along the way.
Now for some ways I’m living a healthier lifestyle that may inspire your man to do the same:
Prioritize protein.
Getting more protein in my day has made a huge difference. Protein shakes are a go-to tool I use to fill and fuel me up. Instead of a pre-made shake with questionable ingredients, I do TDW Vanilla Bone Broth Protein, pumpkin pie spice blend, and homemade almond milk in this stainless steel shaker. Easy and tastes good. Boom! Rule of thumb on how much protein I need to consume per day is: 1 lb of desired body weight = 1 gram of protein.
Elevate your coffee game.
The artistic, beanie-wearing barista that’s always super nice taught me a Chemex is the top tier way to make a cup of coffee. I was skeptical, but after I adjusted my morning routine with TDW Pure Coffee and a Chemex, it was cemented for me. Highly endorse elevating your home’s coffee routine. More tips on how to make a cleaner coffee here. Also, it’s a win win, you aovid plastic and your coffee tastes good.
Supplement with what you need.
These supplements are what I take, but they’re foundational and generally beneficial for anyone. If your husband doesn’t currently supplement, I’d suggest you start by giving him a multivitamin, magnesium, and some protein. Go from there.
Switching daily products to non-toxic alternatives.
Remember don’t change up everything for your guy overnight, but here are actual non-toxic products I use daily.

Don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Keep it light. Nobody likes to be forced into anything, and non-toxic living is no different. Like me, if your husband starts with the small changes, gets consistent, and experiences the beneficial results for himself, he’ll be motivated to keep moving forward on the health journey!
